Time for another BTUB MeetUp and as most know it’s this Friday the 31st of October.
As @btub says “6pm Ship Inn, Southbank. Costumes optional, but wear one please “
Nikki aka @a_lil_spaz also mentioed that “There are Regatta Hotel and Embassy Hotel Halloween parties on afterwards which could be mentioned as kick-ons, perhaps.”
So slash your wrists, cleave a skull and splash a bit of gore around. It’s time to celebrate an American tradition.
Well we all got together for the forth BTUP MeetUp at the Ship Inn as @bronwen @SamJagger were coming to town and wanted to play before doing some work on Saturday where @bronwen was presenting at a Future of Media Conference.
Thanks to the generosity of @bronwen and Brisbane Norg we had $250 on the bar which was added to by @StephenKelly with an additional $250. You may not be aware of it but even with that we went over on the bar tab by about $100 which was generously picked up by @SamJagger.
Thanks to these three about 30 Twitters had a great night at the Ship Inn oiling the mechanism that kicked on to the Pub in the city. That’s where several of us danced the night away to the sounds of some very bad cliché ’80s and ’90s pop but when your half cut already who cares anyway. Ask @bronwen sometime to show you her Flash Dance double twirl. It’s a sight to behold but don’t stand too close as she comes by with her arms flaying like a ninja on speed or your likely to lose your head if you get clipped. All she needed was big hair and welding goggles to go with the ‘80 sound track and she would have had the role in Flash Dance.
Commitments of a presentation the following morning meant that @SamJagger @bronwen had to shoot through leaving the hard core crew to kick on at the casino where from what I’ve gleaned achieved a state of messy that I’m glad to have missed. Watching @AshleyAngell post intoxicated tweets the next day it was easy to tell that far too many brain cells were left in the city never to see dawn again.
The great thing about social networking and especially twitter is that we can so easily organise in real world MeetUps.
What better reason than we have a twitter friend from interstate visiting, giving us an excuse to get together as we’ve had in the past. This year we’ve had the chance to meet each other and also to meet the good STUB folk that have visited us over a few MeetUps
Now it’s time to meet some PTUB friends.
@bronwen (Ya!) is coming to town with @SamJagger (Ya!) and are keen to MeetUp with us on Friday 12th September.
@bronwen has even said that Brisbane Norg will throw a modest amount on the bartab to help us on our Tipsy way.
Isn’t that nice? I think I like these Perth folk already.
So the question is where? Contact me @iankath so I can finalise a venue.
So It’s been decided. Thanks to a bit of feed back on twitter.
Friday 12th of September BTUB MeetUp will be at The Ship Inn at the Goodwill Bridge end of Southbank.
For the sake of giving a time, and we all know folk will come and go as they please, lets say 6pm.
Now if you didn’t need a bit of motivation to find out what your followers are like in the real world we have had some additional BarTab funding courtesy of @StephenKelly from Peepel to add to the generosity from @bronwen of Norg fame. Now we have a total of $500 so first in first served until it runs out or if it doesn’t run out till they throw us out.
If you need to contact me on the night mobile number is 0412 074096.
Well it’s been 3 months since we last managed to put together a Brisbane Twitter Underground Brigade gathering, so it’s about time we got out and did it again!
The next BTUB is going to be on Friday night 29th August from 6:30 at the Ship Inn, Southbank Parklands (Cnr Stanley & Sidon Streets to be more precise – down near the Goodwill Bridge).
Those of us who want can grab some dinner and it should be a good night catching up with some of our STUB colleagues (@ceibner and @kcarruthers) who will be in town.
Feel free to spread the word amongst all Brisbane Twitter folk. Everyone is welcome!
A mentioned there is a bit of activity this week end with a few of the good folks from Sydney coming to Brisbane so we’re doing a little B/STUB MeetUp.
There hasn’t been a lot of talk of where we should go but for the sake of confirming the bit of chat, the call is to meet up at The Plough Inn in the centre of South Bank.
@Alegrya will meet us there after she finishes her dinner for drinks. It looks like it’s a bit difficult to book on Saturday nights and it’s first in first served. There is a large deck upstairs which would be cool place to hang out but we may have to find a seat where ever so make sure you check up there as well as the ground area.
@Alegrya just tweeted that the dinner crowd from her mob is aiming to meet up with us around 8.30pm.
I think I’ll wander in around 7 so if others want to join me. My tweet name is @iankath. DM on the night if you need to.
See ya there.
****Also to think about and discuss maybe for next time @snagy suggested a few pubs including the Regatta, Chalk & Jubilee. My call would be the Regatta. We can talk about that.
This is open for people to add comments to so that we can get a consensus as to where you want to go. @Alegrya is going to be at Ahmet’s Turkish however I just phoned them and it’s already difficult to get in there especially for large groups.
@goldcoastgirl suggested the Turkish restaurant that we went to after the last BTUB.
I’m going to throw into the mix the Plough Inn in the centre of Southbank about 300m from Ahmet’s. They have pretty good pub food and music an Saturdays.
More ideas are encouraged but remember we need to get going so that we can book
The first meet up was on Wednesday 9 April at the Ship Inn as mentioned in the previous posts. About ten of us made it which when considering that the whole thing was thrown together in a couple of days I think was OK.
I had to leave and when I returned the stragglers had moved to a local Turkish restaurant for a bit to eat.
For your amusement here are a few happy snaps that I took
